Howling is a naturally occurring behaviour in dogs. It can be triggered by noises of a particular frequency and some dogs are more prone to the behaviour than others.
If your dog indulges in a spot of howling, he will need to be taught to perform another behaviour to replace the unwanted howling.
Next time your dog howls, try tossing a tasty treat on the floor for him to search for or just before he starts to howl, distract him and ask him to follow some basic commands or perform a trick he loves.
Remember to reward him for doing this preferred behaviour instead of howling.
